Holocaust Remembrance Day (Wrap Up)

Maclay Visual Arts Department participated in the Holocaust Remembrance Event on campus by utilizing art through telling the story of Gustav Klimt’s, The Woman In GoldOur overall curriculum theme this year is integrating empathy in each of our art lessons. We agree with Daniel Pink, “Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place.”  As a Visual Arts Department, we agree empathy is understanding that everyone has their own story, listening to those stories, and sharing your story, as a way to respect and embrace the power of individuality and diversity. By participating in this showcase, we feel our students seem to grasp the bigger picture of the Holocaust.
