Family Activity Night with Mrs. Hicks at Maclay's Lower School Art Studio (Creative Confidence)

When challenged with a Family Fun Activity Night, what did Cathy Hicks do you ask....Well, she planned her lesson around the book Creative Confidence. She ran her session with the kids and parents participating in a hands on lesson that later became a focal point bulletin board in our Lower School Commons here at Maclay. You can see from the photos below that she had a loaded session.
Why did she choose this book to base her art session around? You see we are doing this as a Visual Arts Professional Development for next year. Click the link below to read more:

We also wrote a Faculty Excellence grant for our school where we tied this book into our vision. We blogged on this earlier check it out:

Picasso said it best, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."

Cathy agreed with Picasso and wanted our parents here to start to see who we want to nurture those abilities. Cathy is ground 0 for our program. She starts teaching the basics and gets our students and families ready for Middle and Upper School. What a huge difference it makes when we all speak the same language and are on the same page as our kids spiral up vertically.

This quote sums up the whole night. So, when was the last time you did art? If it has been awhile get on it. We know you will be glad you did!
