Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers

The Vincent van Gogh sunflowers were an easy and fun start in art for the first grade class.

Here is a pretty cool clip of Vincent Van Gogh visiting the gallery and seeing his artwork.  The short video contains information about Vincent van Gogh's life.  It would be a great lead in to teaching a lesson on Van Gogh.  Cool, I tell you.  (time-3:26)

Directions:

Have kids draw a sunflower with a pencil on 12 x 18 paper.
Then, the kids outlined the flower with a black oil pastel.
We used the tempera cakes below to paint the background and then, the flower.
I absolutely love the tempera cakes with the younger kids.  (Tempera Cake Information)
